Blackpool, United Kingdom, Sunday 29 March 2026. Blackpool woke up under grey skies and steady rain, but that did little to slow down the heartbeat of the Winter Gardens. As umbrellas filled the streets outside, the world’s best DanceSport athletes made their way indoors, shaking off the water and gathering once again beneath the chandeliers of the Empress Ballroom. The atmosphere felt different today: not only because it was the final day, but because everyone inside the venue knew the same thing, the story of the 2026 WDSF DanceSport Festival was about to reach its final page.

From early rounds to the evening session, the venue became a shelter not only from the weather, but from the outside world itself. With the presence of more than 40 judges and officials from across the globe, every detail of the day carried the weight and prestige of a truly international championship. Coaches, families, athletes and spectators moved through the corridors with the familiar mixture of nerves and excitement, all with one shared focus: the decisive final hours of the WDSF GrandSlam Latin Adult, the competition set to close the festival with the kind of intensity only Blackpool can deliver.

WDSF GrandSlam Latin Adult (2nd day)

All roads led to one moment on Sunday: the long-awaited WDSF GrandSlam Latin Adult Final, the competition that had been building tension from the very first hours of the morning. Throughout the day, the Winter Gardens felt like it was holding its breath, with athletes, coaches and spectators counting down the hours until the Empress Ballroom lights would shine on the biggest Latin showdown of the weekend.

Adding an extra touch of prestige, the final was presented by a very special guest: Marius Andrei-Balan, multiple-time World Champion, whose presence alone reminded everyone in the hall that this was not just another final, this was Blackpool.

The opening Samba immediately ignited the audience. The moment the finalists stepped onto the floor, the atmosphere shifted. The crowd rose in volume and energy as the stars entered the Empress Ballroom, and every beat of the music felt amplified by the excitement in the room.

Among the most explosive reactions of the night came for Malthe Brinche Rhonde and Sofie Sorensen, the Scandinavian couple whose entrance alone sent a wave through the audience. Their sharp synchronicity and fearless rhythm brought the ballroom to its feet, and when the music ended, the applause did not stop, clapping, shouting, and a clear demand from the public for more.

The winners sealed their triumph with a spectacular final celebration, emotionally breaking into the rhythm of a Spanish Paso Doble as their honor dance, turning their victory into a performance of its own, before the night closed in the most fitting way possible: with the sound of “Simply the Best” echoing through the Winter Gardens, as the 2026 Festival reached its final, unforgettable conclusion.

The WDSF DanceSport Festival Championship Latin Youth brought one of the most dynamic and exciting finals of the closing day, as six outstanding couples stepped onto the Empress Ballroom floor with speed, intensity and remarkable confidence. The category once again proved why Youth Latin remains one of the most thrilling divisions to watch, with every couple delivering performances full of ambition and character.

The gold medal went to Maddox Loevenhardt and Sara Coman (DEN), a couple who have firmly established themselves as true competitors, always dancing with fearless energy and an unmistakable hunger to win. Their presence on the floor continues to grow competition after competition, and Blackpool added yet another major title to what has been an impressive series of recent successes.

Silver was claimed by Patrick Berbece and Andreea Sturzinschi (ROU), who leave the 2026 festival with a second medal in their pocket. After winning gold in the WDSF DanceSport Festival Championship Standard Youth just two days ago, the Romanian couple returned to the floor with confidence and determination, confirming their versatility by adding a prestigious Latin silver medal to their Blackpool campaign.

The bronze medal was secured by Artem Crivenco and Alexandrina Martinova (MDA), a duo whose progress has been impossible to ignore. Over a relatively short period of time, they have gained visibility across the international circuit, consistently reaching finals and placing on podiums in major events. Their performance in Blackpool confirmed that they are quickly becoming one of the most consistent and promising couples in the Youth category.

Just outside the podium, Liu Xuan and Gao Leqi (CHN) finished fourth, followed by Tizio Tiago Domingues da Silva and Isabell Zagorje (GER) in fifth. Sixth place went to Giosue' Micalizzi and Denise Gagliano (ITA), completing a final that kept the audience engaged from the first Cha Cha to the final Jive.

WDSF World Challenge Cup Standard Rising Stars

The WDSF World Challenge Cup Standard Rising Stars brought a strong and elegant final to the Empress Ballroom. With refined movement, ambition and clear competitive maturity, the finalists confirmed why this category continues to be one of the most closely followed events of the festival.

Gold went to Batu Sandiraz and Emilija Ulcinaite (TUR), who celebrated a truly special moment in Blackpool by claiming their first-ever WDSF medal at the Winter Gardens. Their performance combined confidence and composure, earning them a breakthrough victory on one of the most demanding stages in the world.

The silver medal was claimed by Ivan Vinogradov and Olga Khrebtova (AIN), a couple who once again demonstrated their high level and consistency. With strong technical control and polished elegance, they confirmed their ability to remain among the top contenders in international Standard Rising Stars competitions.

Bronze was secured by Joao Relha and Nadia Dominika Kastrau (POR), continuing their excellent competitive trajectory. After winning gold at the WDSF World Challenge Cup Standard Rising Stars in Riga last December, the Portuguese duo now adds a prestigious Blackpool bronze medal, further cementing their position among the most competitive couples of the category.

Just outside the podium, Dmytrii Forostianov and Helene Novalee Tilgert (GER) finished fourth, adding another major final to a strong international career that has been steadily growing since 2023. Spain’s Daniel Ficola and Tatiana Gonzalez Contreras (ESP) took fifth place, while Kajetan Tygielski and Nicole Menser (POL) completed the final in sixth, rounding out a category full of quality, promise and strong international representation.

WDSF Super Grand Prix PD Standard Adult

The WDSF Super Grand Prix PD Standard Adult offered one of the most complete moments of the entire closing day, combining entertainment, tradition and elite-level Standard dancing. Before the couples even took the floor, the Empress Ballroom was already fully engaged thanks to a lively and humorous Kiss Cam, which instantly warmed up the crowd and created one of the most enjoyable and spontaneous moments of the day.

Moments later, the mood shifted as the finalists entered the floor, bringing the elegance and refinement that define Professional DanceSport. The tension rose with the first of this year’s Solo Dances, the Tango, before the final concluded with a vibrant and uplifting Quickstep, sending the audience into loud applause as the last notes echoed through the ballroom.

The podium was confirmed in a medal ceremony presided over by WDSF President Mr. Shawn Tay and President of BDDANCE x UDANCE Ms. Vera Zhang, adding an extra layer of prestige to an already outstanding final.

Gold went to Alexey Glukhov and Anastasia Glazunova (MDA), a couple whose legacy continues to expand with every performance. Their authority, elegance and composure on the floor made it clear once again why they are now firmly established among the most dominant names in Professional Standard.

Silver was claimed by Vadim Shurin and Anastasia Meshkova (LAT), who delivered a performance marked by strong presence and impressive clarity. Throughout the final, they combined technical control with confident expression, earning a well-deserved place on the podium in Blackpool.

The bronze medal was secured by Edgaras Baltaragis and Indre Baltarage (LTU), continuing an excellent competitive run. After recently winning bronze at the Barcelona PD Standard Adult in January, the Lithuanian couple arrived in Blackpool with momentum and once again proved their consistency at the highest international level.

Just outside the podium, Jonas Alexander Pettersen and Kristy Puusepp (NOR) finished fourth, reaching the final in what represents an important milestone in the early stages of their PD journey. Nikita Anikeev and Elina Kokotova (AIN) placed fifth, followed by Jiang Jiying and Zhao Yuye (CHN) in sixth, completing a final filled with world-class quality.

Blackpool once again proved why this event holds such a special place in DanceSport: because of the unique magic created by the Empress Ballroom, the unmistakable atmosphere of its walls, and the tradition kept alive by the Empress Orchestra, whose live music remains one of the great treasures of this festival.

WDSF President Shawn Tay reflected on the spirit of the event and the people behind it:

“I want to express my sincere gratitude to every single person who contributed to organising this event. From our staff and officials to our volunteers, partners and athletes, this festival exists because of your dedication. We leave inspired by what we have witnessed here, and we are already looking forward to returning next year to write the next chapter together.”

A Night to Remember: GrandSlam Standard Final Takes Centre Stage at 2026 WDSF DanceSport Festival

Blackpool, United Kingdom, Saturday 28 March 2026. The third day of competition has finally arrived at the WDSF DanceSport Festival by BDDANCE x UDANCE, bringing one of the weekend’s most eagerly awaited highlights: the celebrated WDSF GrandSlam Standard Adult Final. But Saturday delivered more than world-class dancing, it also brought a moment of pure excitement for the entire Hall. During the day, it was officially confirmed that the WDSF DanceSport Festival will return to Blackpool next year, from 6 to 9 May 2027, ensuring that the legendary of the Winter Gardens will once again welcome the world’s best athletes.

With that announcement echoing through the venue, the atmosphere felt even more electric, as the Empress Ballroom became the stage for unforgettable performances, where top couples battled for glory on one of DanceSport’s most iconic floors, with the decisive rounds broadcast exclusively through the Olympic Channel.

From 7:30 a.m., hundreds of registered athletes began arriving to take part in the festival, marking the start of the day’s competitions and preparations. This year also saw a special milestone, with the Empress Ballroom and Spanish Hall both active simultaneously for the first time, allowing athletes to compete and rehearse across both venues and filling the Winter Gardens with unmatched energy.

Adding to the vibrant atmosphere, dozens of volunteers traveled from across Europe to support the event, collaborating with teams from around the world and helping to ensure the smooth running of the competitions, while also creating opportunities to connect and build friendships across the DanceSport community. The day’s energy was electric, with every performance met with applause, cheers, and a fully engaged audience responding to each moment on the floor.

Highlights and Key Results of the Day – Saturday 28 March 2026

WDSF DanceSport Festival Championship Latin Junior II

The category delivered an emotional and thrilling final, showcasing the incredible talent rising in DanceSport. Gold went to Kristiyan Donchev and Martina Kondaklieva (BUL), whose reaction to their victory was truly moving, tears of joy from the couple, their families, and supporters filled the Empress Ballroom as they received their medal to a long ovation from the audience.

Ivan Karalkou and Vasilina Polyushits (BLA) claimed silver, adding another prestigious podium to their successful year, following notable appearances in the Junior II events at Platja d’Aro and Stuttgart. Meanwhile, the German duo Yasin Saglik and Isabella Craciunescu (GER), after a recent streak of gold and silver medals, now celebrate a well-earned bronze in Blackpool.

The remaining finalists Ronaid Kogan and Alina Potapova (EST), Darius Gabriel Danciu and Alessandra Maria Dediu (ROU), and Tim Gordon and Luisa Huber (GER), brought infectious energy to the final, with their performances sparking applause and rhythmic clapping from the audience, keeping the Empress Ballroom alive with excitement.

WDSF DanceSport Festival Championship Latin Under 21

The Under 21 Latin final was one of the most emotional moments of Saturday in Blackpool. The Empress Ballroom saw a category full of speed and intensity, but also a podium that clearly meant a lot to the couples involved.

Dimitrii Kalistov and Luna Maria Albanese (GER) took the gold medal, and their reaction said everything. The moment they realised they had won, emotions took over. They stepped onto the podium holding back the tears, receiving their title with the crowd applauding warmly as the celebration unfolded.

Second place went to Barbosu Nicolas-Daniel and Iorgovan Iovana (ROU), closing their Blackpool campaign with another major result. After winning gold in the Latin Rising Stars in Sibiu last November and adding a bronze medal yesterday in the WDSF World Challenge Cup Latin Rising Stars, the Romanian couple now leave the 2026 festival with two prestigious medals.

The bronze spot was claimed by Nicholas Spica and Carlotta Aceti (ITA), who continue their strong season after winning gold at Barcelona´s Olidata DanceSport Cup in January. In Blackpool, they delivered a final full of confidence and strong character, earning them a deserved place on the podium.

Just outside the medals, Liu Mingda and Yin Heyin (CHN) finished fourth, followed by Temirlan Samatuly and Zerip Madikyzy (KAZ) in fifth and Liu Xuan and Gao Leqi (CHN) in sixth, completing a final that kept the audience engaged from start to finish.

The WDSF Open Solo Latin Female Adult brought an exciting and modern energy to the Empress Ballroom, as the world’s top solo athletes delivered performances full of personality, precision and fearless expression. With every round, the intensity grew, leading to a final where charisma and musicality kept the audience fully engaged until the very end.

The gold medal was claimed by Maddalena Cadorin (ITA), who delivered a commanding performance marked by confidence, sharp execution and outstanding stage presence, celebrating a memorable victory for Italy on one of DanceSport’s most iconic floors.

Silver went to Chen Jr Yu (TPE), whose performance stood out for its clarity and control, confirming her ability to compete at the very highest level and earning a well-deserved podium finish in Blackpool.

The bronze medal was secured by Lo Sum Yi Abby (HKG), an athlete who continues to grow as one of the most consistent names in the international Solo circuit. After increasing her presence on podiums in recent months, she once again proved that dedication and perseverance can lead to the highest stages, adding an important medal to her rising career.

Just outside the podium, Samira Barbolla Bonvino (ITA) finished fourth, followed by Alessandra Lo Verde (ITA) in fifth and Stefani Hrman (CRO) in sixth. All three impressed the audience with the electricity of their movements and the fierce intensity they transmitted through every look and every step, proving exactly why they deserved their place among the top six finalists of the day.

The WDSF Super Grand Prix PD Latin Adult brought a different kind of intensity to the Empress Ballroom, with Professional DanceSport couples delivering powerful performances full of character, speed and presence. The atmosphere in the hall was charged from the first dance, as the audience followed every round with excitement, fully aware that this category always produces some of the most spectacular moments of the festival.

At the top of the podium, Razvan Dumitrescu and Jacky Joos (GER) claimed the gold medal, celebrating their first-ever victory in this category. Their performance combined confidence and sharpness, earning them a memorable triumph on one of the most prestigious floors in the DanceSport world.

"It’s our first competition as professionals, so to win it directly is unbelievable". They said

Just outside the medals, Egor Petrov and Daria Petrova (AIN) finished fourth, followed by Vincenzo Termini and Sharon Arena (ITA) in fifth and Xu Liangjuan and Feng Xiezhuoyl (CHN) in sixth. The final was completed by Nikita Bazek and Hanna Run Bazev (ISL) in seventh. A special mention goes to Egor Petrov, to whom we wish a speedy recovery.

WDSF GrandSlam Standard Adult (2nd day)

The most awaited moment of Saturday finally arrived in the Empress Ballroom with the WDSF GrandSlam Standard Adult Final, but not before the audience was treated to a series of special celebrations that made the atmosphere even more memorable.

The evening began with the recognition of the three delegations with the highest number of registered athletes, with Italian, German and French Federations receiving a well-deserved tribute for their outstanding presence at this year’s festival.

Shortly after, the spotlight turned to BDDANCE x UDANCE, who marked their 30th anniversary with a special fashion show that filled the ballroom with elegance and celebration. Models and athletes representing the brand stepped onto the floor wearing stunning designs, accompanied by rhythmic applause and an enthusiastic crowd. The moment was made even more special by the visible emotion of Vera Zhang, President of BDDANCE x UDANCE, who watched proudly as the celebration unfolded. Earlier this week, WDSF had the opportunity to speak with her in an exclusive interview, available in full on the WDSF website. Happy 30th Anniversary!

Then, it was time for the main event. The GrandSlam Standard Final was introduced by a very special presenter: Marius Andrei-Balan, multiple-time World Champion, whose presence added even more prestige to a final that already felt historic.

The competition opened with a beautiful Slow Waltz, setting the tone for what would become an unforgettable battle. The atmosphere shifted with the Tango, chosen as the Solo Dance of the final, before the couples returned for the Viennese Waltz, where after three dances Cojoc Rares and Andreea Matei (ROU) held the leading position.

Everything came down to the last dance: the Quickstep, a thrilling finish that lifted the entire Empress Ballroom to its feet. The audience clapped along with the music, creating one of those Blackpool moments that can only be understood by those who have lived it inside these legendary walls.

The medal ceremony was presented by Vera Zhang, President of BDDANCE x UDANCE, and Shawn Tay, President of WDSF, bringing a symbolic close to one of the festival’s defining nights.

Before the final results were announced, it was impossible to ignore the level of the six couples on the floor. Their names are among the most recognised in global DanceSport, and their presence, movement and partnership reminded everyone why the Winter Gardens were built: to host excellence, elegance, and history in motion. Some moments in DanceSport mark more than a milestone, they signal a shift, a new chapter in the way the sport grows, connects and evolves on a global stage.

Following the announcement of BDDANCE x UDANCE as Official Title Partner of the 2026 WDSF DanceSport Festival in Blackpool, alongside the renewal of its partnership as Official WDSF GrandSlam Partner for the fifth consecutive year, WDSF had the opportunity to sit down with Vera Zhang, President of BDDANCE x UDANCE, to reflect on the brand’s journey and its role within the international DanceSport community.

Day One of the WDSF GrandSlam Standard Adult began today in Blackpool, launching a two-day competition format introduced here for the first time. With the decisive rounds and final results expected for tomorrow Saturday, DanceSport fans are encouraged to stay closely connected as the battle for one of the most prestigious titles of the festival continues.

WDSF Open Standard Senior II

WDSF Open Standard Senior II brought a refined and elegant atmosphere to the Empress Ballroom, with couples delivering polished performances marked by musical sensitivity and remarkable composure. The final was a true celebration of experience and partnership, where every round reflected the prestige of dancing on the Blackpool floor.

In sixth place, Pavol Zalom and Blazena Zalomova (SVK) closed their competition with a performance full of discipline and poise, showing excellent control and a calm presence throughout the final.

Finishing fifth, Simone Viola and Manuela Scorzosi (ITA) impressed with their expressive interpretation and confident floorcraft, earning a strong result in a category filled with international quality.

Italy dominated the podium, led by Anna Grazia Agata Messina (ITA), who captured the gold medal after an outstanding performance in the final. Already a recent winner in Solo Latin Youth in Burgas, Bulgaria, and also a gold medallist at the German Open Championship in Stuttgart last year, Messina continues to cement her position as one of the most exciting rising solo athletes in the Youth division.

The silver medal went to Mariagrazia Manico (ITA), an athlete who has built an impressive competitive trajectory across both Youth and Junior II categories. With recent victories in events such as Millieha and Lazise, Italy earlier this year, Manico once again confirmed her consistency and high level, earning a well-deserved second place in Blackpool.

In third position, China’s Lu Qiannuo (CHN) celebrated an important milestone by claiming the bronze medal in her very first Solo Latin competition in the Youth category. After winning gold yesterday in Solo Latin Junior II, she successfully stepped up into the older age group and immediately proved her potential with another podium finish on the iconic Blackpool floor.

One of the most anticipated highlights of the second competition day in Blackpool was undoubtedly the BDSF International Team Match Ten Dance Adult, a brand-new and innovative category making its official debut at the Winter Gardens. With teams representing Czechia, Germany, Italy, the People’s Republic of China, Poland and Romania, the event brought a fresh and spectacular format to the Empress Ballroom, featuring couples of the very highest international level.

From the very beginning, the atmosphere was electric. The crowd was visibly excited, applauding and cheering as they awaited the moment the teams would take the floor. The opening parade became one of the most memorable scenes of the day, as each delegation entered with pride, energy and creativity. Five couples formed each team, and the Empress Ballroom erupted in applause as flags and vibrant accessories filled the floor. Dressed in striking and innovative DanceSport outfits, the athletes created a truly majestic entrance, greeted by enthusiastic ovations, a moment that brought the entire audience to its feet.

The selection of participating teams was based on two criteria: countries with the highest participation in last year’s festival, and nations with teams ranked within the Top 15 worldwide, ensuring that this new category featured some of the strongest DanceSport delegations on the planet.

Team Czechia opened the performances with a traditional and charming proposal, combining Czech-inspired music and choreography rooted in folk dance elements. Their routine sparked clapping and smiles across the ballroom, including impressive spins and dynamic moments that immediately connected with the audience.

The German team followed with a performance rich in sound and variety, reminding everyone of DanceSport’s unique power to unite cultures and generations. Their presentation felt like a tribute to the history of dance, honouring those who have stepped onto the floor before us.

When Team Italy entered, the response from the crowd was immediate. A wave of applause and cheers filled the Empress Ballroom as they delivered a routine full of Mediterranean warmth and passion, bringing a burst of energy that sent shivers through the audience.

The elegance of the People’s Republic of China then took centre stage, as their performance stood out for its precision, refined execution and striking discipline, setting a benchmark of control and harmony on the iconic Blackpool floor.

Team Poland showcased strong rhythm and character, delivering a confident routine marked by musical clarity and sharp performance quality, earning well-deserved recognition from the public.

Finally, Team Romania brought one of the most entertaining moments of the evening, surprising the audience by incorporating the sound of an alarm clock into their routine, a humorous and unexpected touch that had spectators laughing and cheering as the energy in the ballroom reached its peak.

The competition continued with the Showdance segment, led by Team Romania as the first team to take the floor in this part of the Team Match. With the participation of all delegations, the variety of styles and interpretations kept the audience fully engaged. Tango, Cha Cha and Quickstep echoed through the venue, accompanied live by the Empress Orchestra, making the Six Dance moment a spectacular celebration of both sport and entertainment.

The medal ceremony was presided over by Mr. Shawn Tay, WDSF President, alongside Ms Vera Zhang, President of BDDANCE x UDANCE, adding a special and symbolic conclusion to the debut edition of this remarkable new format.

The WDSF DanceSport Festival Championship Latin Junior II brought an exciting burst of rhythm and personality to the Empress Ballroom, with a final that combined youthful energy with remarkably high technical level.

In sixth place, Romanian couple Danciu Darius Gabriel and Dediu Alessandra Maria delivered a lively and committed performance, embracing the atmosphere of Blackpool with confidence and determination. Reaching the final on such a prestigious floor represents a valuable achievement and an important step forward in their competitive development.

Fifth position went to Dinca Eduard and Avram Angelina (ROU), a duo who began their WDSF journey only last February at the Lyon French Open. Italy’s Gabriel Boschi and Giorgia Mastrandrea (ITA) claimed fourth position, giving the home crowd plenty to applaud and reinforcing Italy’s growing strength in the junior categories, especially visible throughout the day across multiple competitions.

Bronze went to Estonia’s Evgeni Morugin and Vera Rjabosapka (EST), who earned their place on the podium through a composed and confident performance, standing out with clean technique and strong musical interpretation in a demanding final.

The silver medal was secured by Eduard Gabriel Croitoru and Ana Colbu (ROU), who arrived in Blackpool following recent competitions in Spain and Germany. Their journey across Europe culminated in an impressive performance on one of DanceSport’s most celebrated floors, confirming their ability to deliver under the highest pressure.

At the very top, Ronind Moldovan and Zsofia Gombos (ROU) claimed the gold medal after a ceremony attended by Jens Steinmann, WDSF Presidium Member, who took part in the medal presentation. After a long and decorated competitive history in Romania and other European events, the couple travelled to the other side of the continent and delivered when it mattered most, stepping onto the top of the podium in Blackpool to the excitement of an emotional audience, and with smiles that reflected the significance of their triumph.

In sixth place, Estonia’s Margus Krass and Nele Suvisild impressed with their poise and graceful presence, securing a valuable final position in Blackpool and adding another strong result to their international experience.

Germany’s Rainer Nolte and Sabine Nolte finished fifth, delivering a composed and polished performance throughout the rounds. Their consistency and control allowed them to remain firmly in contention in a final where every placement was fiercely contested.

Just outside the podium in fourth, Thomas Langkavel and Sabine Haas (GER)demonstrated remarkable harmony and elegance, showing a confident interpretation of the Standard programme and earning strong recognition in one of the day’s most competitive senior finals.

The bronze medal went to Italy’s Massimo Bigoli and Anna Bertelli, a couple who arrived in Blackpool with momentum after winning gold in Senior III in Dublin last November, and previously in Łódź in September. Coming to fight for another major title, they once again confirmed their quality by securing a well-deserved place on the podium.

Silver was claimed by Stefano Maraboli and Laura Donati (ITA), who secured second place in Blackpool for the second consecutive year. Their result follows an outstanding season, including their gold medal in WDSF Open Standard Senior III in Prague last September, reaffirming their position among the leading couples of the category.

At the top of the podium, Germany’s Fabian Lohauss and Simone Braunschweigcaptured the gold medal with a performance full of chemistry and passion. Having already competed in Blackpool last year and earned silver in the WDSF Open Standard Senior II, they returned this time determined to go one step further — and their victory in the Empress Ballroom was met with warm applause, celebrating a truly outstanding display of artistry and connection.

The WDSF Open Latin Juvenile brought vibrant energy to the floor, as emerging talents showcased both fearless rhythm and impressive competitive maturity, proving that the future of DanceSport is already full of promise.

Finishing in sixth place, Austrian couple Jan Babushchak and Luisa Zaripov-Ludwig concluded their Blackpool campaign with a strong result, adding to an already successful season that included a gold medal last December at the Children Grand Prix Latin in Zagreb, Croatia, last december.

Lithuania’s Armandas Maziliauskas and Rachele Gibiezaite secured fifth place in a final marked by tight margins and intense competition, holding their own among an increasingly international juvenile field.

In fourth position, Zeshen Gu and Ameerah-Madonna Akhtar achieved a notable breakthrough, as this placement represents their first major step into international competition within the WDSF circuit, an encouraging beginning on one of the sport’s most demanding stages.

The bronze medal was claimed by Lithuanian couple Herkus Darzinskas and Izabele Semaskaite, earning a podium finish that was warmly received by the crowd and celebrated with visible emotion.

In sixth place, Italy’s Arianna Campanale left everything on the dancefloor, earning a well-deserved position in the final after a performance full of determination and charisma.

Fifth place went to Amina Askar of Kazakhstan, who travelled across continents to compete for the first time in the legendary Blackpool halls. Her effort and presence were rewarded with a strong result, marking an important milestone in her international journey.

Finishing just outside the podium in fourth, Giulia Fichera, from Italy, impressed with a confident and polished performance, showing maturity beyond her years and confirming her growing strength within the Junior II field.

The bronze medal was claimed by the italian Alessandra Sirressi, who continues to build momentum after making her WDSF debut earlier this month at the Bulgarian Open in Sofia. Her third-place finish in Blackpool reflects both rapid progress and a clear ability to rise to the occasion on one of DanceSport’s most prestigious stages.

Silver went to Kazakhstan’s Akku Sapiyeva, adding yet another major result to an already outstanding season. After taking gold in Solo Standard Latin Junior and Solo Latin Junior II in Barcelona and Tashkent at the end of last year and the beginning of this one, she once again proved her consistency by stepping onto the podium in Blackpool.

At the top, Chinese Lu Qiannuo, captured the gold medal, reaffirming her status among the most successful solo athletes of the category. Having already claimed victory in London last September, the Chinese dancer returned to the United Kingdom to conquer once again, this time on the iconic Blackpool floor.

In sixth place, Poland’s Mateusz Stawowy and Sara Silva secured a valuable final result in Blackpool, arriving with an extensive competitive background that stretches back to 2014 and reflects years of dedication at the highest level of international DanceSport.

Germany’s Yevhenii Boichenko and Mariia Vlasenko finished fifth, continuing to build on a remarkably consistent sporting trajectory, having competed in more than 76 events in recent years — a testament to their experience, resilience, and competitive presence across the circuit.

In fourth place, Chi Yang and Tang Ruyi (CHN) once again demonstrated why they remain one of the most exciting Chinese couples in the Standard discipline. After winning gold in Wuxi in the Rising Stars Standard category, they returned to Blackpool for the second consecutive year with their ambitions firmly set on the top step of the podium. Their journey at the festival continues, as they will also take part on Saturday in the much-anticipated WDSF GrandSlam Standard Adult.

The bronze medal went to Gianluca Di Melfi and Giorgia Celli (NED), whose performance stood out for its expressive quality and complete commitment to the rhythm of the music. Their presence in the final brought a distinctive character to the floor, and their third-place finish in Blackpool represents a major achievement in one of the most prestigious Open events of the day.

Silver was claimed by Ivan Vinogradov and Olga Khrebtova (AIN), who delivered a composed and powerful performance marked by clean lines and impressive control. The couples themselves mirrored that emotion, stepping onto the floor with visible determination and excitement, fully aware of what it means to compete in Blackpool.

In sixth place, Anatolii Kameniuk and Larissabelle Sofokleous (CYP) delivered a spirited performance, embracing the occasion with energy and confidence and closing their final with a valuable result on one of DanceSport’s most prestigious stages.

Hungarian duo Pellei Mihaly and Mihok Milla secured fifth position after an expressive and dynamic display, showing strong character and a clear connection with the music throughout the final.

Finishing fourth, Italy’s Cristian Martino and Elena Gamberini impressed with their sharp presentation and competitive drive, narrowly missing the podium but earning warm support from the crowd in a final filled with intensity.

In sixth place, Romania’s Robert-Leonard Coman and Sara-Maria Velea earned an important final result on one of the most prestigious stages in DanceSport. Their performance combined composure with determination, and their presence in the top six reflects a growing international profile that continues to develop season after season.

Lithuanian couple Kristupas Mlinskas and Liepa Rudnickaite secured fifth position, standing out for their refined movement and controlled interpretation of the Standard programme. Their Blackpool appearance marks another valuable step forward, adding experience and recognition in a highly demanding championship field.

Poland’s Mateusz Stawowy and Sara Silva finished fourth, narrowly missing the podium after delivering a strong and elegant performance. With their well-established competitive experience, the duo once again demonstrated the depth and quality of Polish DanceSport, remaining consistent through each round of the event.

The bronze medal was claimed by Germany’s Dmytrii Forostianov and Helene Novalee Tilgert, a dazzling couple who impressed throughout the competition with their presence and confident musicality. Their journey at the festival is not yet over, as they will return to the floor on Sunday in the World Challenge Cup Rising Stars Standard, where they are expected to be among the standout couples once again.

Silver went to Tymon Olejarz and Wiktoria Kurda (POL), who arrived in Blackpool with momentum after earning silver at the European Championships Standard Youth in Burgas, Bulgaria, last December. Their performance in the Empress Ballroom reaffirmed Poland’s strength in the category, as they danced with clarity, ambition and remarkable determination.

At the top of the podium, Richards Krivins and Alexandra Shamova (LAT) captured the gold medal, continuing to build a legacy that has been steadily taking shape over time. Minh Truong and Minh Cuong: A Family´s Journey from Vietnam to Blackpool

Ahead of the 2026 WDSF DanceSport Festival by BDDANCE x UDANCE in Blackpool, the story of Vietnam’s Minh Trương and his son Minh Cương offers a deeply human perspective on DanceSport, one that goes beyond results and rankings.

At its heart, this is not simply a story about competition, but about connection. About a father and a son who, through DanceSport, share experiences that go far beyond the dance floor, travelling together, learning together, and growing side by side within the same global community.

This year, that journey takes on a special meaning. In Blackpool, one of the most iconic stages in DanceSport, they will not only be present at the same event, they will share it. Competing in the same international environment, each in their own category, but united by the same passion, the same sacrifices, and the same family bond.

In the lead-up to the Festival, we spoke with them about ambition, responsibility, and what it truly means to experience DanceSport as a family.

A Shared Stage

Looking back at your journey, what does it mean to now share the dance floor with your son at international competitions such as Blackpool?

“It is a very special feeling and a great source of pride for me,” Minh Trương said.
“In the past, I competed on my own. But now, standing on the same international stage as my son, especially at Blackpool, this is no longer just about competition. It is a shared journey as a family.

I feel truly happy that my son can experience this environment, grow through it, and begin his own path in DanceSport.”

As both a father and a dancer, how do you balance your personal ambitions with your role in guiding and inspiring your son?

“It is not easy,” Minh Trương admitted. “I still have my own competitive goals, but as a father, I also feel a strong responsibility to guide my son. I want to lead by example. I love my son, I deeply appreciate how hard my wife has worked, and I also care greatly about the Vietnamese national team. That is why I must continue to push myself, not only for personal achievement, but also to inspire those around me.”

What values do you hope to pass on to Minh Cương through dance?

“The most important values my wife and I want to teach our son are perseverance and determination,” Minh Trương explained.

“When Kubi sees his father continuing to train and compete, he understands how difficult it is to pursue a sport like DanceSport. It requires strong will, discipline, and consistency.”

For Minh Trương, DanceSport is more than performance: “It is a journey where I learned patience, respect, sportsmanship, and communication. These are the values I want to pass on, not only to my son, but also to the younger generation.”

The Meaning of Blackpool

What makes Blackpool and the Festival such a special experience?

“Blackpool has always been a dream for every DanceSport athlete,” Minh Trươngsaid. “It is where the best dancers in the world gather, and being able to compete there is a great honour. This year is even more meaningful because I will be sharing that experience with my son. It is a memory we will carry with us for life.”

Through Minh Truog’s Eyes

While Minh Trươngspeaks from experience, discipline, and responsibility, Minh Cương offers a different perspective, one shaped by curiosity, excitement, and the simple joy of discovering the world through DanceSport.

Minh Cương, what is it like for you to see your father competing and to follow in his footsteps?

“I think my father is very strong and works very hard, so I want to try my best like him,” Minh Cương commented.” I feel very happy when I can travel and compete with my parents.”

What do you enjoy the most about dancing?

“I enjoy competitions the most because I can meet many friends from different countries,” Minh Cương said. “Some of them have blonde hair and blue eyes, and I find that really interesting and fun. “I also feel very happy when my parents reward me with toys if I do well or improve.”

Competing Together, Living the Moments

How do you feel when you and your father compete at the same event?

“I feel very happy because I can stay close to my parents,” Minh Cương shared. “Usually, my parents travel a lot, so I stay at home and help take care of my two younger sisters. So when I can travel and compete with my parents, I feel very happy and safe.”

He added: “But I also have to bring a lot of school books with me because I need to catch up with my studies. It is a bit tiring, but I always try my best.”

What are your favourite moments as a family during competitions?

“The best moments are when we go through everything together, training, competing, facing pressure, and celebrating as a family,” Minh Trươngsaid.

“My favourite moments are when we travel together and after the competition, my parents take me out to play,” Minh Cương added.

Representing Vietnam

What does representing Vietnam at the Festival mean to you?

“It is a great honour and responsibility,” Minh Trươngsaid. “I am not only competing for myself, but also representing Vietnam. I always try my best to show a strong and positive image of my country on the international stage.”

“I feel proud to represent Vietnam like my father,” Minh Cương added.

A Message to the Next Generation

What message would you like to share with other families and young dancers?

“I want to say: keep trying and listen to your parents,” Minh Cương said.

Minh Trương concluded with a personal reflection: “To reach international competitions, I had to overcome many challenges and work very hard. But I never gave up. For me, DanceSport is not only about passion, it is about proving that with perseverance and determination, anyone can overcome their limits and achieve success.”

For this Vietnamese family, DanceSport is more than a sport, it is a shared journey shaped by love, resilience, and the bonds that connect generations.

Blackpool, England – 25 March 2026 – The 2026 WDSF DanceSport Festival by BDDANCE x UDANCE officially began today with a strong institutional and educational focus, as the WDSF Open Congress in Blackpool brought together adjudicators, athletes and representatives from across the global DanceSport community.

Held at the historical Winter Gardens in Blackpool, in the Spanish Hall, the Congress marked the opening chapter of a weekend where excellence in DanceSport is built not only through performance, but through knowledge, structure, and shared international standards.

An Institutional Opening: Building the Foundations of Excellence

Organised by WDSF Academy, the Congress reaffirmed the World DanceSport Federation’s commitment to education, transparency, and the continuous professional development of its officials.

WDSF President Shawn Tay attended the opening of the Congress, welcoming participants and emphasising the Federation’s dedication to education and international standards.

The day opened with an address by Nenad Jeftic, WDSF Vice-President for Sports, setting the tone for a comprehensive programme of lectures dedicated to Standard and Latin disciplines. Throughout the day, participants engaged in structured sessions designed to strengthen evaluation criteria and ensure consistency across international competitions.

A Day of Technical Insight and Structured Evaluation

The Congress programme featured a series of in-depth lectures delivered by leading experts:

Following the conclusion of the Congress, participants undertook the WDSF Standard/Latin Adjudicators GKT & ECT Exams, key components in the qualification and renewal process for WDSF adjudicators.

These examinations, alongside the day’s educational programme, form a critical part of the Federation’s structured pathway, ensuring that officials maintain the highest standards of knowledge, language proficiency, and technical understanding required at international level.

A Global Platform for the DanceSport Community

The Congress welcomed licensed adjudicators, new applicants, WDSF athletes, and registered observers, reflecting an inclusive and forward-looking approach to education within DanceSport.

By opening access to the principles of judging and evaluation, the initiative not only strengthens the quality of officiating, but also empowers athletes with a deeper understanding of performance criteria, bridging the gap between education and competition.

What does hosting the WDSF DanceSport Festival in Blackpool represent for the British DanceSport community?

The WDSF bringing dancers from all over the world together is not only a highly significant moment in the dance calendar, but also a celebration of the history and roots of DanceSport itself.

The fact that the second edition is already taking place in Blackpool is, in many ways, history in the making. For the British DanceSport Federation, which is still at an early stage in its development journey, this Festival offers a unique opportunity for British dancers to compete in an event that is not only recognised by the WDSF, but also connected to the Olympic Movement.

It is a truly special occasion for our athletes, and one that brings considerable value to the development of DanceSport in the United Kingdom.

How would you describe the growth and development of DanceSport in the United Kingdom in recent years?

DanceSport in the United Kingdom is currently going through a challenging and transformative phase. It is a period of transition within the classical ballroom community, where different visions of the sport are evolving simultaneously.

For us at the British DanceSport Federation, our focus has been on providing dancers with new opportunities to express themselves in a more structured, transparent, and internationally connected environment.

Through initiatives such as broadcasting on the Olympic Channel and developing a more open and accessible competitive framework, we are beginning to see a gradual shift in perception. Each year, more coaches, judges, and athletes come to understand the value of this approach, and how it contributes to strengthening credibility and long-term sustainability in DanceSport.

What makes Blackpool such a special destination for DanceSport?

Blackpool holds a unique place in the history of DanceSport. Since the early twentieth century, it has been a benchmark for standard and latin dances worldwide.

The Empress Ballroom, in particular, carries an atmosphere that is impossible to replicate. When you walk through those doors, you immediately feel the connection to generations of dancers who have performed on that same floor.

There is a combination of elegance, energy, and history that makes every athlete feel part of something far greater than a competition. It is not simply a venue, it is a living symbol of DanceSport heritage.

How important do you feel is collaboration between National Federations and WDSF?

Collaboration is essential for the continued growth of DanceSport. With almost 100 National Member Bodies within the WDSF, the potential for development, education, and shared knowledge is greater than ever before. We are now witnessing a far more connected global community, where information and opportunities are more accessible than at any point in the past.

The launch of the WDSF DanceSport Festival in Blackpool is a strong example of this collaboration in action. It reflects a shared commitment both to preserving the history of the sport and to investing in its future.

What message would you like to share with athletes and supporters attending the 2026 Festival?

My message is simple: enjoy every moment of it.

Blackpool is a place where DanceSport becomes an experience, more than just competition. It is a celebration of identity, culture, and expression.

I would encourage everyone to embrace the elegance of the event, to appreciate the atmosphere, and to support the athletes with passion and respect. The energy in the room is what makes this Festival truly unforgettable.

WDSF Takes Immediate Precautionary Action to Safeguard Competition Integrity

The World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) has taken immediate precautionary measures in connection with an ongoing WDSF competition, following the receipt of information indicating a potential integrity concern related to adjudication.

As part of these measures, WDSF has imposed a temporary suspension of a licensed adjudicator’s activities and the exercise of their adjudicator license, with immediate effect.

In addition, and solely as a precautionary measure to ensure the integrity of the competition, an adjudicator was removed from the panel of the WDSF International Open event. This action was taken to eliminate any potential risk and to maintain full confidence in the adjudication process. This measure does not imply any finding of wrongdoing in relation to the adjudicator concerned.

All actions have been taken promptly and on a precautionary basis, in order to protect the integrity, fairness, and credibility of WDSF competitions. These measures do not constitute disciplinary sanctions, nor do they imply any conclusion regarding the facts or any determination of responsibility.

A formal review process has been initiated, during which all relevant facts will be carefully examined. The adjudicator concerned will be given full opportunity to provide their explanation in accordance with WDSF regulations and principles of due process.

WDSF remains firmly committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity and transparency in all its competitions and activities. Appropriate further action will be taken as necessary upon completion of the review process.

In Memoriam: Cheslovas Norvaisha

The World DanceSport Federation announces with sadness the passing of Cheslovas Norvaisha, Honorary President of the Lithuanian DanceSport Federation.

Cheslovas Norvaisha dedicated his life to DanceSport in Lithuania and internationally, contributing as a dancer, coach, adjudicator, and organiser. Over many decades, he trained and mentored numerous athletes, supporting the development of DanceSport in Lithuania and fostering high standards of performance and professionalism.

He served as President of the Lithuanian DanceSport Federation from 1993 to 2001 and was subsequently named Honorary President. Mr. Norvaisha held the position of international category DanceSport adjudicator, officiating at competitions across Europe, and was recognised as an Honoured Coach of Lithuania. His work in the organisation, promotion, and governance of DanceSport was acknowledged through awards from Lithuanian state institutions and sports organisations.

The World DanceSport Federation extends its sincere condolences to his family, friends, and the Lithuanian DanceSport community. His dedication and service over many decades have left a lasting contribution to the sport.

The WDSF Presidium has approved amendments to the WDSF Presidium Operating Policy on Rules for Hip-Hop Choreography, following the conclusion of the voting process. These amendments aim to clarify, modernise, and harmonise the Operating Policy, ensuring greater consistency, transparency, and operational efficiency in the organisation and adjudication of Hip-Hop Choreography competitions.

The revised policy improves the clarity of definitions, refines competition formats and categories, and updates the judging system to provide a more comprehensive evaluation of performances. Additional measures have also been introduced to safeguard the youngest athletes participating in title events. These changes do not alter the fundamental structure or intent of the discipline but ensure that competitions are conducted in a clear, fair, and transparent manner.

The World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) is excited to announce that the 2026 WDSF DanceSport Festival, taking place from 26 to 29 March at Blackpool’s historic Winter Gardens, will be available to watch live online. Fans around the world can follow every moment of this premier DanceSport event through the official WDSF YouTube channel and on the WDSF website.

For the 2026 edition, WDSF has partnered with Vívaro Media, renowned for high-quality sports broadcasting, and DSI TV, to deliver professional TV production and livestream coverage. Their expertise ensures that every detail, from the elegance of the performances to the excitement of competition, is captured at the highest standard, providing an immersive viewing experience for audiences everywhere.

An Expanded and Diverse Competition Programme

This second edition of the festival features an expanded competition schedule, offering something for every DanceSport enthusiast: from newly added solo female events and junior a juvenile categories, to the WDSF DanceSport Festival Championships in Latin and Standard for Junior II, Youth, and Under-21 athletes, and the renowed GrandSlam events, this year split into two days for each, Standard and Latin.

The livestream will cover all competitions across the festival, giving audiences an in-depth and engaging experience across multiple disciplines and categories. Note that the GrandSlam Latin and GrandSlam Standard Quarter-Finals, Semi-Finals and Finals will be broadcast exclusively on the Olympic Channel.

For the Cups I Will Lift: The Story of Sahra Inamlik

Sahra İnamlık, a young dancer from Türkiye, saw her love for movement surfaced in early childhood. Initially introduced to gymnastics at seven, it was not long before her true passion emerged: Latin dance. Watching her sister compete abroad, the stage lights, costumes, and performances sparked a desire in Sahra that she could not ignore. She returned home determined to follow her own path in dance, a journey that would soon intertwine with the challenges of living with Type 1 diabetes.

Since beginning this journey, Sahra has competed in numerous WDSF Opens and World Championships across Europe, taking part in both solo and choreographed Latin events in the Juvenile II, Junior I and Junior II categories. She has celebrated victories in Didim, Sarajevo and Skopje, along with podium finishes in Cambrils, and Madrid, steadily gaining experience and recognition on the international stage.

But her story is about much more than competition results. Diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of eight, Sahra has had to learn how to balance intense training, performance and careful health management. Supported every step of the way by her mother and sister, she has developed remarkable resilience, discipline and determination, allowing her to continue pursuing her love for DanceSport despite the obstacles she faces.

Today, it is this combination of passion, perseverance and family support that brings us together with Sahra. In her own words, she shares the story of her journey, the challenges she has overcome, and the inspiration she hopes to offer to other young athletes.

When and how did you discover your passion for Latin dance?

I have always been very active. I loved dancing from a very young age. Because of this, my mother first enrolled me in gymnastics when I was seven, and I trained there for about a year. But my interest in dance continued to grow, so when I was eight I began basic dance training at the club where I still train today.

During that period, I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes and had to stay in hospital for fifteen days. Only two weeks after leaving the hospital, something happened that would change the direction of my life.

My sister had a DanceSport competition in Greece. Since my diagnosis was still very new, we travelled there feeling a little sad but also very excited for her.

While she was getting ready, I watched her with admiration. Her hair was being done, she was putting on her make-up and wearing her competition dress. My mother was helping her. As I watched them, I felt an indescribable sense of admiration and longing.

Then the competition began. The stage lights, the colourful dresses and the beautiful dances were so impressive that I could not take my eyes off the stage.

At that moment I knew my mother understood what I was feeling. I asked her to please sign me up for the Latin dance group, and I promised myself that one day I would become a champion.

Making that decision gave me great strength. From that day on, no difficulty or obstacle could make me turn away from my path. My eyes were always on the podium. I imagined myself lifting the trophy on the top step one day, and I began fighting for my dreams.

What did you feel when you were diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes and how did it affect your journey?

Before I could fully understand what my illness was, I was admitted to hospital and I was very frightened. None of us really understood what was happening. During my time in hospital, the doctors and my family supported me a lot. My mother in particular worked very hard to learn everything she could about diabetes.

After leaving the hospital, I realised that my mother first wanted to help me become psychologically stronger. Feeling well and staying strong were very important. We decided to accept diabetes as part of our lives.

My family has always been by my side, and they are my greatest strength. I decided to stay strong not only for myself, but also to be an example for other children like me. I learned how to live with diabetes and continued dancing because I did not want to give up on my dreams.

“Diabetes may be a part of my life, but it cannot stop my dreams.”

How do you manage your diabetes during training and competitions?

During training sessions and competitions, I constantly monitor my blood glucose levels thanks to the sensor on my arm. I always check my values before and after dancing, and if my blood glucose drops I take small snacks.

I also use an insulin pump, which makes managing insulin delivery much easier. When my blood glucose rises, the pump helps regulate it by delivering insulin to my body.

During competitions, my mother stands beside the stage and monitors my sensor through the application on my phone. Because my sensor is connected to my phone via Bluetooth, the phone must stay close to me so the connection is not lost.

That is why my mother almost dances with me at the side of the stage. Wherever I move, she moves in the same direction to keep the connection.

Sometimes technical problems can occur with the sensor. In those moments, while other athletes rest between rounds, my mother checks my blood glucose with a small finger-prick test. Sometimes we have to repeat this several times to monitor my values properly.

Thanks to her support, I can protect my health and still perform at my best on stage.

“I may have a sensor on my arm, but when I step onto the stage, there is only dance in my mind.”

What role do your mother and sister play in supporting you?

My mother has been my greatest supporter throughout this journey. After my diagnosis, she worked incredibly hard both in hospital and afterwards to learn everything about diabetes.

She is always by my side during training, competitions and daily life. She helps me monitor my blood glucose and make sure everything is done correctly. She has always believed in me and often tells me something that gives me strength:

“I am your shadow. Whatever your dream is, wherever in the world you want to be, I will be there.”

My sister is also a very talented Latin dancer, and she is a wonderful example for me. Watching her and sometimes dancing together motivates me to work even harder.

Dance is our greatest passion, and I feel very lucky to have a family that believes in my dreams as much as I do.

What challenges have you faced as a young athlete living with diabetes?

My situation is a little different from that of other athletes. During competitions and training sessions my mother needs to stay close to me, and sometimes it can be difficult to explain this to organisers.

There is one moment I will never forget. After finishing a performance and giving my bow on stage, the head judge called my number and asked my coach and me to come to him. He thought the sensor on my arm was an accessory and said it was not allowed.

Together with my coach, we explained that it was a medical device used to measure my blood glucose. At that moment I felt very sad that the situation was not understood. However, seeing that awareness about this issue is now growing makes me very happy.

Competitions can also affect my blood glucose levels. Stress and excitement sometimes cause them to rise, which can lead to headaches, thirst and blurred vision. At other times my levels may drop, causing shaking, sweating or dizziness.

Because my passion for DanceSport is so strong, my doctor taught my mother and me how to manage these situations. My device even has a special “competition setting” designed to prevent my blood glucose from dropping during performances.

My nutrition is also carefully planned before competitions. Carbohydrate counting is done precisely and my insulin dose is adjusted accordingly.

With the support of my family, doctors, coaches and club, I have learned how to manage these challenges and continue dancing.

What motivates you to pursue your dreams despite these challenges?

When I dance, I feel truly happy. When I step onto the stage, I forget all the difficulties. At that moment I feel completely present, as if nothing else exists around me. Dance is not just a sport for me, it is a true passion. It gives me strength and makes me feel free.

My greatest motivation is the dream of becoming a World Champion. At the same time, inspiring children who live with Type 1 diabetes motivates me deeply.

If my story can make even one child say “I can do it too,” it would mean everything to me.

“I dance not only for myself, but also for all children who have dreams like mine.”

How do you balance your love for dance with managing your health?

My health is very important to me, so I carefully monitor my blood glucose levels through my sensor and listen to my body before training sessions and competitions.

The insulin pump helps me manage my insulin much more easily, and because it is supported by artificial intelligence it can sometimes automatically regulate my blood glucose.

I also pay close attention to my nutrition. My meals are planned according to my training schedule and my doctor’s recommendations. Protein, carbohydrates, fats and vegetables are carefully balanced to support my performance as an athlete

Over time I have learned to understand my body. When I am well prepared and organised, I can protect my health and continue dancing. I believe success does not begin on the stage, but in the preparation before stepping onto it. For me, dance is not only a sport, it is a way of life.

What advice would you give to other young athletes living with diabetes?

First of all, never give up on your dreams. Diabetes may be part of your life, but it does not have to stop you.

Believing in yourself is the most important thing. When you combine something you love with a strong goal, nothing can stop you.

For me, that passion is DanceSport and my biggest goal is to become a World Champion. If you truly believe and work hard, nothing can stop you. If I can do it, you can do it too.

How does it feel to be a role model for children facing similar challenges?

It feels wonderful. Knowing that my voice is being heard makes my family and me very happy.

"The cups I will lift and the medals I will wear from now on mean much more to me, because knowing that they can give hope to another child."

Families of children living with diabetes from different parts of the world have started reaching out to us. Associations, doctors and athletes also contact us, and we try to support everyone as much as we can. Sometimes I even share my competition schedule with families so they can come and watch. Just as I was inspired by my sister when I was younger, perhaps they might also discover their dreams in that atmosphere.

"If my story can give even a little courage to another child’s dreams, that would be the greatest medal of my life."

What message would you like to give to the DanceSport community regarding athletes with health conditions such as diabetes?

Sport is a right for everyone. Every child should have the opportunity to follow their dreams.

Children living with diabetes can also step onto the stage, compete and succeed. With the right support, they can show the world what they are capable of.

I believe organisations should be more aware of athletes with special health conditions and create environments where they can participate comfortably.

I have been dancing with diabetes for five years, but only recently has my situation become more visible. For me, it is very important that people understand these experiences. I dance with a sensor on my arm, but in my heart there are only my dreams.

"I want to show the world that dreams have no limits."

A Champion Already in the Making

As Sahra continues her journey, her story is also being recognised by the global DanceSport community. Shawn Tay, WDSF President, praised her determination and the inspiration she brings to young athletes around the world:

“Sahra’s courage and commitment embody the true spirit of DanceSport. Her story reminds us that passion, resilience and the support of a community can empower young athletes to overcome challenges and pursue their dreams.”

This weekend, Sahra will once again step onto the international stage as she competes at the WDSF Istanbul Open, taking part in the Choreographic Latin Junior and Open Solo Latin events. For Sahra, every competition is another step forward, not only towards her dream of becoming a world champion, but also towards inspiring children around the world to believe that, as she said, dreams have no limits.

The World DanceSport Federation learned recently with sadness of the passing of Mr. Keichour Gosine, President of the National Ballroom Dance Association of Trinidad and Tobago.

Mr. Gosing served as President of the National Federation, supporting the activities of the organisation and representing its members within the international DanceSport community.

The World DanceSport Federation extends its sincere condolences to his family, friends, and to the members of the National Ballroom Dance Association of Trinidad and Tobago during this difficult time.

Through this renewed partnership, DSI TV will once again play a key role in showcasing the excitement and energy of one of the most anticipated DanceSport events of the year.

As part of the agreement, DSI TV will broadcast extensive coverage of the competitions taking place throughout the festival, allowing DanceSport enthusiasts across the globe to follow the action live and on demand. Sofia Hosts the 2026 WDSF Bulgarian Open Championships

Sofia, Bulgaria – 7–8 March 2026. The 2026 WDSF Bulgarian Open Championships (BOC) gathered the international DanceSport community in the Bulgarian capital for two days of competition and celebration of the sport. The competition took place at the five-star Hotel Marinela Sofia, welcoming athletes, officials and spectators from around the world to a venue conveniently located close to Sofia Airport.

The championships brought together 767 athletes representing 46 countries, including 685 Solo competitors and 192 couples, underlining the event’s broad international participation. With more than 1,000 spectators attending and all tables fully reserved, the competition floor unfolded before a full and attentive audience throughout the weekend.

Representatives from government institutions were also present, reflecting the recognition of DanceSport within the country’s sporting and cultural landscape.

Highlights of the day, Saturday 7^th March

Saturday’s programme featured an extensive schedule of competitions across multiple age groups and disciplines. Among the many categories contested, the WDSF European Championships Solo Latin Female Adult and WDSF European Championships Solo Latin Female Junior II formed the central focus of the day.

For many athletes, the championships carried particular emotional weight. Several competitors were making their debut at a European Championship, while others returned determined to defend the positions they had secured in the previous edition. The atmosphere inside the hall reflected these personal journeys. Throughout the finals, the audience remained engaged despite the late hours, offering steady encouragement that accompanied every performance.

Team spirit was clearly visible among the national delegations throughout the day. Supporters from Türkiye and Italy created a lively atmosphere in the venue, cheering on their athletes during the decisive rounds. One of the most memorable moments arrived during the medal ceremony of the European Championship Solo Latin Female Junior II. As Giulia Gianfrate received the gold medal, Italian athletes and supporters joined together in singing the Italian national anthem, creating an emotional scene that resonated across the hall.

Another defining achievement of the evening came in the European Championship Solo Latin Female Adult, where Rosa Granato secured her second European title. Speaking after the victory, she shared a message that resonated strongly with fellow dancers:

“Believe always in yourself, because if you want it, you can achieve it.”

The audience responded with the same enthusiasm that had marked the previous day, and the atmosphere inside the hall reflected a traditional DanceSport setting where musicality, posture and movement were central to the performances.

The date also coincided with International Women’s Day, adding an additional dimension to the event. In several categories, the adjudication panels were composed entirely of female judges, highlighting the contribution and leadership of women within DanceSport.
